Who we are

The Massachusetts Regional Caring Science Consortium (MRCSC) is a local grass-roots forum created to increase opportunities to explore the philosophy, ethic, and practices of Caring Science in Massachusetts and the New England area. Although the MRCSC is identified as “A Regional Consortium of the Watson Caring Science Institute (WCSI)” and shares objectives with that organization, the MRCSC has no economic or organizational ties to WCSI. Our website address is: https://mrcsc.org. Currently, our primary activity is holding conferences once or twice a year to present and discuss Caring Science related activities and subjects in the region. Conference tickets have been, and we hope will continue to be, offered to interested professionals and students without charge.

Participation in the MRCSC is voluntary and without fee or monetary compensation. This site is donated, the conference organizers and speakers are volunteers, and the organizations hosting conferences offer their meeting facilities and continuing education credit services without charge. We are very thankful to the individuals and institutions that continue to contribute their time and resources.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Conference Registration

This site is used to register users for upcoming conferences. When users register, the site requires that the users provide their name, email address and credentials. Name and credentials are needed to create the conference attendance list and apply for nursing contact hours. Users email addresses are necessary to communicate conference details such as venue room and parking provisions, or Conference URLs. The registrants home state is requested to allow planners to consider the degree of localization in internet “virtual” presentations.

Users optionally can also supply more information including address and telephone number. This would be used to contact the user should email be unsuccessful.

Comments

Because the site has received many inappropriate comments and few valid ones, we have disabled the ability for visitors to leave comments on the Blog and Events pages. We will re-enable comments should there be more interest in using the site to exchange thoughts relative to Caring Science. The following is general procedure if comments are enabled.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Sharing Personal Data

Registration information for each conference may be supplied to the hosting organization. Email addresses provided in registration or in subscription to the site are used to contact subscribers of conference details and to notify them of coming conferences. Email notification is done using MailChimp, which allows a user to unsubscribe from the list. In some cases, such as when the MailChimp message bounces or is not opened, the conference organizer may send an email message directly. Aside from these cases, Personal Data provided to this site for registration or subscription is not intentionally shared with any other organization.

How long we retain your data

Personal Data provided to this site for registration or subscription is retained indefinitely unless the user sends a message to the admin
(alynne@mrcsc.org) asking that the data be deleted. Personal Data transferred to MailChimp will be retained indefinitely unless the user excises the link at the end of each email that reads:
” You can update your preferences or unsubscribe from this list. “

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us, by contacting the admin at
alynne@mrcsc.org . You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
